Fresh reinstall, but will not update

Post by Saddletank »

Hi guys

I was an avid user of the games many years ago and decided to reinstall both Jutland and DG:RJW. The installs seem to have gone fine but Jutland won't update beyond an extremely old version dated 2009. I know there were a stack of updates over the years. Can you please advise how I access these?

I have just now tried to activate DG:RJW but it seems I have lost my activation key/ID. Any chance of any help here?

Many thanks.

Hi Saddletank! Welcome back!

Are you trying to install Jutland and Distant Guns through the StormPowered client? As this is the only way to access those updates.

If not, just to get you started on a clean slate, make sure to first uninstall Jutland and Distant Guns and then follow the link below to download and install the StormPowered client.

https://stormpowered.com/download.html

Once the client is installed you'll need to log in with the same email address and password that you used to initially purchase the games, as that is the account your licenses are applied to. If you're having trouble remembering your old password, you can click the "I don't know my password" button to initiate a reset.

Once you're logged in, you can download and install your games from the "My Games" section.

If you are trying to install through the client or you're still having trouble after trying the suggestions above, please follow the link below to open a ticket and our support staff will get you sorted out. Thanks!

Thanks Garbo

I may have installed the games separately as I had the old executables on my backup drive. I've now uninstalled the games and am re-downloading them via Stormpowered.

As a complete curveball, is there any reason Norm hasn't allowed his two awesome naval games to be purchased via Steam? I am certain that would whack sales numbers up massively. I've been poking around the various communities in the last 24h while trying to get these games running again and there are a lot of people who love them and who lament the DRS issues and SES' apparent closure. A Steam release would get the game exposed to a whole new generation of naval gamers. To me there's never been any other games like these.

BTW is there a preferred folder location? Does it need to be inside Stormpowered's folder as in C:\Program Files (x86)\Storm Eagle Studios\Stormpowered\Distant Guns ???

Hi Garbo

That worked perfectly. Both games now up and running and fully updated.

Thanks!

My pleasure! I'm happy to hear you got it working!

"Is there any reason Norm hasn't allowed his two awesome naval games to be purchased via Steam?"

This is something that's been talked about and is a possibility in the future.

"is there a preferred folder location? Does it need to be inside Stormpowered's folder as in C:\Program Files (x86)\Storm Eagle Studios\Stormpowered\Distant Guns ???"

The Storm Eagle Studios and StormPowered folders are actually installed outside of the Program Files (x86) folder. And the Storm Eagle Studios folder does NOT need to be inside the StormPowered folder to function but both must be on the same drive. So your directory structure should look like this:

C:\Storm Eagle Studios\Distant Guns RJW Enhanced
C:\Stormpowered

Hey Garbo

Thanks. A future Steam issue I think would be awesome. It would be great to restore the community these games once had. And more online battles would be amazing. I remember many great online games in the past, so much more fun than vs the AI.

Well... I put the games in C://program files (x86) and it all seems to work okay. I'm a bit OCD-ish about having all my apps under one root directory *shrug*

Now to enjoy some Distant Guns again for the first time in about 7-8 years. I plan on doing a YouTube campaign series for both RJW and 1915 Jutland. I will chuck some links up here when I get going.
